Middle Ear - Middle ear starts with the tympanic membrane. In the tympanic membrane, there is hollow. This hollow is filled with air. The hollow consists of hearing bones such as maleus, incus and stapes. In middle ear, there is also Eustachian tube. This tube is what connects the middle ear with pharynx. And between the middle ear and inner ear, there is limited by fenestra ovalis and fenestra rotundra.

Using middle ear picture to know infection

Infection or often in the form of inflammation in the middle ear is often called otitis media. Why is it named “otitis media”? The word ‘otitis’ means the inflammation that occurs in the middle ear while media refers to the word ‘middle’. The first sign of middle ear inflammation or infection can be sore throat or even cold. Those two symptoms are actually very common to happen to anyone.

However, some cases with otitis media are commonly found in children. This condition indicates that children found with otitis media is lack of antibiotic in their body. When middle ear infection of otitis media occurs, it firstly shows only influenza symptoms—like such as cold and other problems in the respiratory system.

This is caused by bacteria and it can also be viruses that enter the respiratory system. That is why children are susceptible to get middle ear infection or inflammation. Children love to play at anywhere places that might be infected by the bacteria or viruses that cause otitis media.

The infection or inflammation that happens to the middle ear can range from mild, acute and chronic. In mild ear inflammation or infection, the symptoms that may appear are such as sore throat and coughing. For acute otitis media, the infection or inflammation in the middle ear is followed by drainage of pus from the ear and pain. In chronic ear infection or inflammation, the onset may last long.

The period of the inflammation or infection can be more than a month. The drainage of the pus from the eardrum may last until over three months. In conclusion, we can use middle ear picture to describe the place where the infection or inflammation of the middle ear occurs.
