Cochlea Diagram - We have learnt about the anatomy of ear. We have also written the article about the inner ear anatomy and external or outer ear anatomy. Now, in this article we will talk about one part of the inner ear anatomy. We have known about this ear part in a brief. Thus, we will discuss it deeper in this article. One of the ear parts, inner ear anatomy that we will discuss is cochlea.
Learning cochlea diagram
Cochlea is one of the auditory systems that our body has. The location is in the inner ear anatomy. Cochlea shape is like spiral. Its location is in a bony labyrinth in the inside or our ears. The spiral shape of cochlea consists of three ducts. These ducts are unrolled-like shape. Its shape is also a bit like a snail.
The names of those three ducts are scala vestibuli, scala media and scala timpani. Those three scalas or ducts are parallel. One of those three scalas, the scala media, has a kind of fluid called endolymph. The two other scalas have a kind of fluid called perilymph. This fluid is different from the fluid had by the scala media.
The function of cochlea is as the primary auditory system in our hearing system. It is extremely essential to allow sound heard by our ears. The cochlea aligns with tiny hairs in the inner ear part. We usually call the tiny hairs as cilia. The cilia help to filter dust entering out hearing system. It vibrates when there is sound coming through our ear.
In the cochlea, there are other important parts that also make our hearing system possible. Reissner’s membrane, stria vascularis, tectorial membrane, organ of corti, inner hair, cell nerves, cochlear, nerve fibres, tunnel, tunnel fibres, outer hair, and basiliar membrane are all parts of the cochlea. The cochlea has a unique structure. The structure consists of oval window, round window, fluid paths, tectorial membrane, cochlear partition, organ of corti and the rest is auditory nerve system.
As told before, the shape of cochlea is like a snail. The word ‘cochlea’ actually comes from Latin word which means snail. Thus, the name represents the shape of this auditory system.
